    Methanol extract from Vietnamese Caesalpinia sappan induces apoptosis in HeLa cells

    BACKGROUND: This study evaluated the cytotoxic activity of extracts from Caesalpinia sappan heartwood against multiple cancer cell lines using an MTT cell viability assay. The cell death though induction of apoptosis was as indicated by DNA fragmentation and caspase-3 enzyme activation. RESULTS: A methanol extract from C. sappan (MECS) showed cytotoxic activity against several of the cancer cell lines. The most potent activity exhibited by the MECS was against HeLa cells with an IC50value of 26.5 ± 3.2 µg/mL. Treatment of HeLa cells with various MECS concentrations resulted in growth inhibition and induction of apoptosis, as indicated by DNA fragmentation and caspase-3 enzyme activation. CONCLUSION: This study is the first report of the anticancer properties of the heartwood of C. sappan native to Vietnam. Our findings demonstrate that C. sappan heartwood may have beneficial applications in the field of anticancer drug discovery

    Analysis of probability of non-zero secrecy capacity for multi-hop networks in presence of hardware impairments over Nakagami-m fading channels

    In this paper, we evaluate probability of non-zero secrecy capacity of multi-hop relay networks over Nakagamim fading channels in presence of hardware impairments. In the considered protocol, a source attempts to transmit its data to a destination by using multi-hop randomize-and-forward (RF) strategy. The data transmitted by the source and relays are overheard by an eavesdropper. For performance evaluation, we derive exact expressions of probability of non-zero secrecy capacity (PoNSC), which are expressed by sums of infinite series of exponential functions and exponential integral functions.     On Throughput for UAV Relay Assisted for Use in Disaster Communications

    In this paper, the system performance of an energy harvesting (EH) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system for use in disasters was investigated. The communication protocol was divided into two phases. In the first phase, a UAV relay (UR) harvested energy from a power beacon (PB). In the second phase, a base station (BS) transmitted the signal to the UR using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA); then, the UR used its harvested energy from the first phase to transfer the signal to two sensor clusters, i.e., low-priority and high-priority clusters, via the decode-and-forward (DF) technique. A closed-form expression for the throughput of the cluster heads of these clusters was derived to analyze the system performance. Monte Carlo simulations were employed to verify our approach

    Assessment of High School Students’ Learning and Development of Qualities and Competencies: A Case Study

    This study aims to assess high school students' learning outcomes, their achievement of goals and fulfilling academic requirements and how the entire teaching and learning process takes place. The study, consisting of an experimental group and a control group was conducted for pre-test and post-test comparisons of the academic performance of 88 10th grade students. 44 students were selected as the experimental group that underwent a specific teaching strategy to monitor their development of qualities and competencies in one semester, and the remaining 44 students acted as the control group. The data collected after the tests were analyzed using SPSS software (V20). The results showed that the students in the experimental group had better academic results than those in the control group. The findings of this study have implications for policy, further research as well as approaches for the assessment of students’ development of qualities and competencies in Vietnam

    Cooperative Group In Current Vietnamese Commercial Environment

    Purpose: The article researches the compatibility between the cooperative group and the current commercial environment in Vietnam to propose for improvement to the laws and for promotion of development of the cooperative group.   Theoretical framework: Recent literature points out that the cooperative group model is quite suitable for the production and business psychology of citizens in Vietnam. In the current stage of development, however, from the influence and impact of international integration and the increasingly fierce competitive pressure of various types of enterprises, the cooperative group have encountered many difficulties to survive. On the other hand, in the context of judicial reform in Vietnam, the issue of complete law system and expanding the freedom to business has always been paid special attention by the Party and Vietnam State.   Design/methodology/approach: The authors have combined traditional research methods of legal science such as legal analysis method, legal efficiency assessment method and legal comparison method.   Findings: According to research, the cooperative group is well adapted to Vietnam's commercial environment because it is compatible with investor psychology and meets the conditions and circumstances of nature, economy and society. However, since Vietnam's deep integration with the rest of the world, the cooperative group model has faced numerous difficulties and challenges, and if suitable solutions are not found, it is very likely that this collective economy will become increasingly difficult. As a result, the article suggests some important solutions, such as offering cooperative group legal status and requiring more preferential lending policies with long loan terms, simple and quick loan procedures, and easy team cooperation.   Research, Practical & Social implications: This research may support many develop future research in Vietnam.   Originality/value: The study of the freedom to business become more and more urgent and very important in Vietnam

    Neural Collapse in Deep Linear Networks: From Balanced to Imbalanced Data

    Modern deep neural networks have achieved impressive performance on tasks from image classification to natural language processing. Surprisingly, these complex systems with massive amounts of parameters exhibit the same structural properties in their last-layer features and classifiers across canonical datasets when training until convergence. In particular, it has been observed that the last-layer features collapse to their class-means, and those class-means are the vertices of a simplex Equiangular Tight Frame (ETF). This phenomenon is known as Neural Collapse (NC\mathcal{NC}). Recent papers have theoretically shown that NC\mathcal{NC} emerges in the global minimizers of training problems with the simplified ``unconstrained feature model''. In this context, we take a step further and prove the NC\mathcal{NC} occurrences in deep linear networks for the popular mean squared error (MSE) and cross entropy (CE) losses, showing that global solutions exhibit NC\mathcal{NC} properties across the linear layers. Furthermore, we extend our study to imbalanced data for MSE loss and present the first geometric analysis of NC\mathcal{NC} under bias-free setting. Our results demonstrate the convergence of the last-layer features and classifiers to a geometry consisting of orthogonal vectors, whose lengths depend on the amount of data in their corresponding classes. Finally, we empirically validate our theoretical analyses on synthetic and practical network architectures with both balanced and imbalanced scenarios.Comment: 93 pages, 20 figures, 4 tables.     Secrecy performance enhancement for underlay cognitive radio networks employing cooperative multi-hop transmission with and without presence of hardware impairments

    In this paper, we consider a cooperative multi-hop secured transmission protocol to underlay cognitive radio networks. In the proposed protocol, a secondary source attempts to transmit its data to a secondary destination with the assistance of multiple secondary relays. In addition, there exists a secondary eavesdropper who tries to overhear the source data. Under a maximum interference level required by a primary user, the secondary source and relay nodes must adjust their transmit power. We first formulate effective signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) as well as secrecy capacity under the constraints of the maximum transmit power, the interference threshold and the hardware impairment level. Furthermore, when the hardware impairment level is relaxed, we derive exact and asymptotic expressions of end-to-end secrecy outage probability over Rayleigh fading channels by using the recursive method. The derived expressions were verified by simulations, in which the proposed scheme outperformed the conventional multi-hop direct transmission protocol.Web of Science212art. no. 21

Using the method of synthesis of documents and interview method, the study investigates the current state of happiness of 30 female officers and employees of Danang University of Physical Education and Sports using the author's happiness scale. Michael Argyle and Peter Hills (2002) have shown: 30.0% less are happy; 43.33% are happy on average; 26.67% are moderately happy; the most important factor in happiness is health.
